ボランティアに言った病院で難病の子供が言った言葉です。

「○○くんはいつも教科書や本を読んで勉強しているね？
　大きくなったら何になるの？」
「僕は大人にはなれないんだ。僕の病気は治らないから。」

言葉継げずにいると、

「でも勉強がしたい。せっかく生まれてきたから、いっぱいいろんなことを知りたい。」

わずか、11歳の子でした。

私はこの言葉を思い出すと、今でも自らの浅学が恥ずかしくてたまりません。
